Cheese Deli

Here are five cheeses that are available from our deli counter (pictured above) that we think any cheese fan will enjoy.

Real Yorkshire Wensleydale & Cranberries

Creamy Real Yorkshire Wensleydale cheese carefully combined with the delicate, fruity succulence of pure, sweet cranberries. An original creation from The Wensleydale Creamery, the cheese displays an innovative complement of flavours, with superb visual experience. Suitable for vegetarians.

Blue Stilton

Stilton’s unique flavour makes it suitable not only for those special occasions when only the best will do , but also but for perking up everyday recipesĀ  and snacks. With its slightly open texture and creamy background it melts and crumbles easily and is one of the few cheeses that freezes well.

Stinking Bishop

Charles Martell began making Stinking Bishop cheese from the milk of his herd of Gloucestershire cattle, to increase awareness of the breed, which had previously been near to extinction. The remarkable smell of the cheese is in the rind, which is washed in perry (the name for cider made from pears) made from the Stinking Bishop variety of pear.

The pear was named after an infamous Ledbury farmer, Frederick Bishop, nicknamed Stinking Bishop, who was born in the mid-19th century and known for his drunken temper. One story is that he blasted a kettle that was on his stove at home, as it annoyed him. He is reputedly buried in the churchyard of the Parish Church of Colwall, a village between Ledbury and Malvern.

Stinking Bishop cheese, despite its alarming name and smell, is mild-flavoured and quite delicious. The smell arises from bacterial action on the perry, soaked into the rind.

Blacksticks Blue

A unique soft blue veined cheese, handmade only by Butlers at Inglewhite Dairy in rural Lancashire. With a distinctive amber hue, Blacksticks Blue reveals a delicious creamy smooth yet tangy taste. Adding perfect colour to any cheese selection, this very special soft blue cheese is one of a kind – an upbeat British classic that is truly different to other blue cheeses.

Snowdonia Black Bomber

2010 Silver Medal at the Nantwich International Cheese Show, 2007 World Cheese Award Bronze winner, this select Extra Mature Cheddar is the flagship product of the range. Creamy & smooth this product has a unique texture & taste that will entice.

We also have a range of Cheese hampers available. Simply take your pick from a selection of Wensleydale and Snowdonia Truckles, award winning Yorkshire Bracken Hill chutneys and crackers from The Fine Cheese Co. and you’ll have the perfect cheese hamper.
